In 2034, the city of Oldberg became the first city in Neo-Britannia to undergo a series of political changes, brutally enforced by The Nonamous Party which gained influence under the guidance of Dr. Zest, a former scientist turned politician. These changes acted on motives of police state like implantation, causing civil unrest, as many beloved these were totalitarian methods of power. During this time, former late night talk show host turned political activist, The Lotus Man (who was recognised by his bizarre appearance) staged many protests against The Nonamous Party. This attracted the attention of Dr. Zest who spoke publicly on the dangers of rejecting the new system. Enraged, The Lotus Man’s protests grew more violent, with protestors assaulting police officers, as well as Nonamous Party members outside of their homes at night. Subsequently, The Lotus Man was forced into exile, escaping the city to live in the shadows. The year is now 2036. Though life in the city of Oldberg has started to normalise, something is brewing. Something which no one could possibly begin to comprehend......
Sara Wordsworth, a struggling journalist living in Oldberg has noticed some peculiar activity emanating from the recently opened Sugarberry Plaza, a newly opened shopping centre that has destroyed business for independent shops situated around the city. Sara has noticed that the shopping centre sprung up out of nowhere over the last few months. Not only that, but she believes it has something to do with the recent disappearances of Oldberg Citizens who were last seen leaving Sugarberry Plaza. Though no one believes her theories, she and her compadres decide to break into Sugarberry Plaza at night....
Sara and the others discover mysterious eggs lying all over the floors of the Plaza; substantial in size and disgustingly pungent. It’s confusing to say the least, and downright mysterious. Suddenly, the eggs begin to hatch, revealing small red eyes and purplish legs emerging from the cracks. Escaping to the upper levels of the Plaza, Sara and the others discover a ceremony taking place, where numerous individuals (all of which have been reported missing) are tied to a large electronic device, with a large creature standing before it. Suddenly, the creature notices them and gives chase.
Escaping via the air ducts to the roof, Sara is alone and trapped. At that moment, she begins to realise that somebody else is on the roof with her. Out of the darkness appears another strange creature, who resembles a Jack in the box toy who introduces himself as Mr. Hiccups. He offers her an escape route, revealing that he has also been watching the Plaza for many months now. Sceptical at first, Sara and Mr. Hiccups escape to the furthest reaches of the city, where they are confronted with an old friend of Mr. Hiccups. The Lotus Man.
